Our Experience

1Change Management and Strategic Guidance

Worked with two directors during Administration transitions to reorganize the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to make the agency more efficient and responsive to evolving dynamics, including funding shifts, growth of the global health portfolio, and a need to focus on fewer, high-priority areas of health where large scale results were possible through more focused interventions. Developed strategic communications and led partnership outreach for CDC’s Winnable Battles, the CDC director’s set of focused priorities to accelerate public health impact.

Served on the leadership transition team to help with policy issues around the merger of the Healtheon Corporation, WebMD Inc ., and Medcast , working closely with the investor relations groups and key backers, including Microsoft. Helped with organizational change management, new branding, and leadership positioning in the marketplace, providing intensive assistance with mergers and acquisitions to bring together internal and external constituencies to achieve the goals of that merger.

Helped several large organizations with their global IPOs and management and growth strategies to move from single product companies to multiple products with an increasing global presence and diverse customer base. Worked on IPOs and strategic initiatives for Motorola, GlaxoSmithKline and Sun Microsystems.

2New Initiatives and Strategic Development

Supported the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s COVID-19 Response serving as strategic advisors to the Incident Manager and other executive leaders, developing messaging and materials, supporting the agency’s strategy for the domestic and global response to the pandemic, and ensuring the organization could surge to support the evolving nature of the response.

Worked with The Coca-Cola Company, First Book and Scholastic on a national, new initiative to raise awareness about the importance of reading and to put books in the hands of children who need them. Engaged Congressional members to host book stops in their districts and developed creative campaigns with celebrity children’s authors to host readings during these events. Developed relationships with the country’s largest retailers to increase book donations and created the world’s largest book to tour cities across the U.S.

Worked throughout the U.S. government’s health and development agencies to create the Global Health Security Agenda – originally conceived as a $45M new initiative before the Ebola outbreak in West Africa and ultimately leading to more than $1.5B in new appropriations for U.S. government agencies pledging to work in more than 30 countries containing at least 4B people to prevent, detect and respond to infectious disease threats. Helped develop the overall messaging, Congressional and partnership strategy and multi-lateral relationships to ensure other governments supported the agenda through efforts to improve their national, regional and global health capacity.

3External Engagement and Public Policy

Managed a $100M ad campaign for the Department of Health and Human Services that targeted childhood obesity through physical activity among children ages 9-13. Worked closely with Congressional champions and key partners to build support for the VERB campaign and led the engagement of the business sector to engage partners like Nickelodeon, Nike, The Walt Disney Company and The Cartoon Network to make in-kind donations and provide additional platforms for this nationally recognized social marketing campaign.

Provided strategic policy guidance and leadership to large corporations with complex regulatory issues including stem cell research and new technologies and government agencies on the H1N1 flu pandemic and the rollout of the Affordable Care and American Recovery and Reinvestment Acts.

Worked with the beloved children’s art supply company Binney & Smith to introduce its first digital product, Crayola software. The global campaign included building relationships with industry analysts, engaging potential product reviewers and developing successful strategies for media outreach. Developed a competitive landscape and detailed analyses of potential competitors and terms that resonated with key constituents.
